I found I had to re-load QuickTime on one of my PC's to get the video to work.
Maybe I needed a newer version, but I reinstalled it from the Apple website and rebooted and then all was well.

Tusk Dog

From one of my favorite albums...Tusk! by Fleetwood Mac.
The Tusk Dog as my kids call it.
Do I still call it an album or is it now a "CD"
I have at least 2 copies of the vinyl, one CD of the "deluxe" version and one on tape.
One vinyl and the tape are pretty well shot. Some of the mixes differ on the different media.
Which is cool and frustrating at the same time. I think the best mixes are on the old vinyl.

2004 Pic

Found this pic that was taken in May 2004 apparently.
It was taken in Viroqua Wisc. I believe.

10/27 Update: Apparently NOT in Viroqua according to an anonymous comment.

I'm curious where the commenter is from. Please comment more. :)

This week

Weds...Jerrie went down to take Austin to visit Grandpa and pick up my mom and bring her up here to spend some time with Austin and so that Jerrie could finish cleaning and organizing.

Thursday: Finished up the Rose Croix Chapter degrees at Scottish Rite.

Friday: Just kind of hanging around home tonight helping Jerrie when she needs something. Covering tier 2 for a work project, ran the CAP net and got X-windows running on the linux laptop!

Fedora

Monkeying around the last few days with Fedora Core 5 Linux on an old 233 MMX(~!) Dell laptop.

Finally got it installed. This laptop has NO floppy, NO CD, no way to get external data in except via the network.
USB and PCMCIA are available, but no boot drivers, of course.
That meant I had to use the handy-dandy adapter to adapt the laptop hard-drive to be used in a desktop machine.
That allowed me to put a minimal enough version of a linux core on to get on the network and install the rest.

The 3 GB hard drive is going to be a limiting factor though, I fear. I only have text apps installed so far, and nothing TOO useful, so I
can't even comment on how fast it works (or not). Telnet and mail work great! Woo-hoo!
I'm in the 80s!

Degree 10 and 11 - Scottish Rite

Scottish Rite degrees 10 and 11 were on Thursday night.

Both were great, but since many of the members in 10th degree were from my blue lodge, I say it was the best. :)
It is a great degree anyway I must say. I'm always impressed with the amount of work that the cast and crew must go through to prepare.

Next week #12 and 13!

Earlier today....beautiful day!

Kimmy!

Kim and Kacey stopped by on Saturday (I think it was Saturday!) to see Austin. Nice to see those guys. They were out doing some shopping for back-to-school. Kacey is in 7th grade! Time keeps marching on.

Sprite....it's very delicious. It's one of the few sugar pops that I still like! Just a little plug there.

Man it's cool out! I actually had to move on to a long sleeve shirt tonight.

Stuff

Since it's 105am Monday and I'm sitting installing server software, I thought I could throw out some thoughts...

Actually rode the 'Wing a few times this week for errands. I never get tired of how comfy that bike is. I really like it! Even if it is 10 years old! I can't imagine what more I could want in a bike...(except a cig. lighter receptacle on the dash!).

I'm trying to remember the week....it's kind of a blur of a holiday and work and not work and the new baby!

Who ever said Kris Kristoferson could sing?

Thursday was a busy day. I had a doc appt and the church nurse stopped by with an awesome prayer blanket for Austin. Then I almost forgot to go to the Scottish Rite temple for class! I got there late, which worked out..since they were running just about as late as I was. Had a meatball dinner and then went through the #7, 8, and 9 degrees!
Of those, I think the #7 was my favorite, but 8 was a close second. #9 I need to see again....I feel like I missed something. Maybe I was tired!

Friday Austin went to the Doc and we found his weight is holding, but not gaining much at all. We have to continue to feed him as much as he can take. Wish I had that problem!
I also worked a half day on Friday.
Saturday we just did stuff around the house. I got the front lawn mowed, but it rained today (Sunday), so the back isn't done!

And now REALLY it's early MOnday!

bad idea

MORE pictures of Austin on Yahoo.

I just put a BOATLOAD of baby pictures out on Yahoo:

Crazy week

Been a little crazy the past week.

I DID indeed complete the Master Mason degree last Monday evening and was raised to that sublime degree!

Tuesday Jerrie and Austin came home from the hospital.

Weds. we were all at home and Jerrie got to get out and go her "baby group" meeting while Grandma and I watched Austin.

Thursday we all tried to get some sleep to the extent we could.
The nurse from the hospital stopped by to check on Jerrie and Austin.

Thursday night I had planned to go to the Scottish Rite Temple for a visit with some brothers from the lodge. I found out Monday night that they were starting degree classes that same Thursday evening. Thought about it and decided to go for it and join the Scottish Rite and check that out. It was great! What a wonderful group of guys and a great facility. Went through degrees 4, 5 and 6 with them. 6 was my favorite, I'll have to say.
By December, I should be a 32nd degree Scottish Rite mason.

Friday we took Austin to the pediatrician for a weight and jaundice check at the urging of the nurse on Thursday.
He did at least keep his weight even and maybe even gained an ounce. Doc said the jaundice was looking OK and the rest of his checkup looked good. Asked us to come back on Tuesday.

Saturday...a few visitors. My sister Kristin and Doug came up to see the baby and take my mom back home to St. Peter.
Also our friend Dana stopped by with a meatloaf...which was quite timely. We had some Saturday night!
Spent almost all day Saturday doing an upgrade for work too. That took far longer than expected, but finally turned out OK.
Went to bed to get some sleep for the trip to So. Dak. on Sunday...

Sunday...got up at 730 and got ready to head out to Volga, SD to see Austin's Great-Grandma, Aunt DeAnna and Uncle Loren.
Visited for a while and I took a nap so I could be awake for the ride back. Had about 9 hours driving round-trip that day!
Loren and I went over to Brookings to pick up some supper. We all ate and talked for a while, then we had to head back home.
At least we got to hang around for about 5 hours. Got home around midnight.

Monday...purposely planned for a light day to catch up on rest for everyone...and we did!

Tomorrow, Jerrie has a doc appt for herself and Austin goes to the pediatrician again to meet his regular doc.
We had to go to a different doc on Friday. The regular one wasn't in, but we really like the one on duty too, so he's a good choice as well.

Wednesay, back to work if all goes well.

WOW...it's all I can say! A lot of stuff crammed into one week!

Saturday

Wow...I'm trying to remember the day!

Quite a few hours of it were spent working (for like actual work, you know, employment). CallManager upgrade.
Gud night! Took almost all day!

Grandma Jo was here all day. Kristin and Doug came up later in the afternoon. Grandma rode back to St. Peter with Kristin.

baby alert!

we've been at the hospital since about 615 pm.

Not too much news yet. The hospital is very busy with babies tonight and is taking it very slowly.
Just monitoring so far. No meds.
They don't want too many moms in active labor till later.

Jerrie is having light, but regular contractions we can see on the monitor.

We slept for a few hours. Just waiting to hear what's next.

Fellow Craft

Kind of behind on blogging here! Monday night I was passed to the second degree at Lodge. So now for a few weeks I'm a Fellow Craft Mason.

I can't believe how much work must go into preparing for a degree.
The guys did a GREAT job.

At the end of the month I'll go through another examination and hope to be "raised" to Master Mason.

It is really cool to be part of a great organization that's been around so long..even in it's present form. Not to mention the long history of Freemasonry.
You can really tell it was founded by some very intelligent men.

CAP

Got the "big promo" to Captain last night at the CAP squadron meeting.
May as well get used to that grade. I'll be there for the next 3 years.
Should have gotten the ECI13 class out of the way sooner, but with selling the old house and moving, etc, it kind of fell by the wayside!

What it really means is that you get to go out and spend a bunch of money on new uniform items!

Gas/ Ending Miles

I still don't know how much gas last night in the bike!
The bank says only $1. Sometimes the credit card places only charge $1 the first day, maybe as an autorization check dealio.

Rode over to CAP and back last night and that was about it.

KC0UIO

Hearing KC0UIO now on the 444.3 rptr. Manning IA.
GOOD haul.

This weekend

Headed up to Jerry Carlson's cabin yesterday in the morning and spent the afternoon there. Wx was quite nice up there. Just enough cloud cover to keep it comfy. No rain and a nice breeze most of the time.
Had a great barbecue lunch/dinner. Hung around till about 5:30 and headed home. Stopped at Pamida and picked a few good deals on baby clothes. Got home around 9pm I guess. Did a few things around the house and finally got to sleep around 1am I think. Kind of wound up I guess, even though it was 300 miles of driving and kind of a long day.

Paid for Saturday's energy expenditure today I guess.
Just taking it easy today. Checked out a new Chinese buffet for lunch today (in Richfield). Picked up a few good clearance items at RadShack.

Crystal and my mom were in town today for arts fairs. They stopped by tonight and we went over to Fireside for pizza. I had spaghetti though! Which was durned good. I need to have that again.

Tomorrow night it's my Fellowcraft Degree night at the lodge. Suppose I should go study a bit for that.

CAP on Tuesday night. A staff meeting, so I'd best try to get there.
Saints game on Thursday night.
Science museum on Friday night.
Party at Sean's house on Saturday night.

Kind of a big week coming up.

Technology

Time and time again when people first learn of new technology, the first thing they want to do is "play" with it.
The next thing they want to do is make money with it.
Shortly after, they want to use it as a weapon.

People should stick with the first thought that comes to mind.

Floppy disk

Every once in a while I get the "opportunity" to use a floppy disk in some of the older laptops that I use for radio work.
It never ceases to amaze me how SLOW floppies are ...even in shiny new machines (the few that actually still have floppies!).
