Austin was "helping" assemble this thing

He's got the hex key in his hand. They sent 2 along. I think they knew kids would want to "help"

New puppy

Doug, Austin and I made the trip to Rusk county Wisconsin to look at a puppy dog we saw on petfinders.com

I couldn't leave there without him after seeing him and playing with him a little.

The pictures make him look a little smaller than he really is. He's just over 9 lbs and they think he's about 4months old by his teeth, etc.
They think he's a shih tzu/yorkie mix...and that's not hard to believe, except that he has a longer snout...more like a mini schnauzer...
He's pretty well behaved, but needs to get more up to speed on being housebroken!
He's good in the crate at night. Seems to be very used to sleeping in there.
His name was Jasper, but we are calling him Jack...and I call him Jackson sometimes too.
Jack seemed to really enjoy the trip home and spent a lot of the time sleeping on Doug's lap.

Free foodstuffs for the people

Free lunch at work today....we were helping out the help desk get caught up on calls today after the conversion. It was kind of a fun change of pace.

Jogging and running are not hobbies.

The best computer is one that mom or dad is using.

I think he wanted to buy a computer with that credit card.

USI Wireless Minneapolis

I'm monkeying around with the Minneapolis Wi-fi network. I got a 1Meg/upload/download connection for $19.95 a month. Plus I'm renting their modem for $5/month.

Not necessary, but it does help a lot. More power output and a MUCH better receiver. I can see wireless nets I've never seen before.

So far, so good. I get the full meg, but they do throttle you. I'll have to drive around and try it just on the laptop or the phone.

You can log in with your modem at home and with one other pc/device as a roamer.
I have both cable and USI wifi on the lan here at home. Just pick which gateway you want to use to get out to the world.

The modem has a "firewall"built in and does NAT...so it's an all in one box almost. Only has one ethernet port though.

The USl wifi doesn't seem to interfere with my home wifi net. Though I had to move my home wifi to ch. 9.

The USI stuff is on ch. 1. Right now i'm wifi on my net to the lan and back out the USI wifi. They say to keep the modem 20 feet from your access point. Mine's only about 10 feet.

Picture of the modem is attached. It's bigger than I thought it would be. About the size of a can of sweet potatoes.

Anyway, if this works out well, I could see it replacing cable internet. They offer a 3 Meg service for $29.99 (with 1 Meg upstream).

In st cloud

Austin really like this pool at the hotel. It was only a foot deep and very warm.

This was at the Holiday Inn Express in St. Cloud.

We went to St. Cloud just to get out of town for a day and to attend the St. Cloud hamfest.

Hamfest was very good and had more attendance than I really expected. Glad the guys up there had a good showing. I found some #222 bulbs for my soldering guns. It was the big buy of the day! Also got to see an actual ham license from 1925...worth the price of admission by itself.

On 94 on the way to St. Cloud for the hamfest

Austin had a donut at Krispy Kreme

I really need to learn how to get the pictures right on my new phone. Never know whic way to rotate them.

:(

A little meeting today

Doug on the guitar

Check out this MP3 of Doug playing guitar. He made it for me for my birthday.
:)

I love it!
I need more of it.

KD0CUO

Doug's callsign appeared in the database last Saturday morning. I thought I put it on the log, but I forgot!

So KDØCUO is the newest Palmquist ham!

Doug and I have had some QSO's on a couple of repeaters since then.

Pix and news

I think I'm caught up on pictures finally. I still need to get my picture album site fixed.
VERY disappointing that it broke.

Cold enough for ya? At least it's not -39 like it was in St. Cloud in about 1982 one morning when I had to fix a transmitter.

THAT was just brittle.

Although, really, it didn't feel much different than -20. Luckily it was totally calm, as I recall.

Oh yeah...still no callsign for Doug today. KD0CT_?

What else is new? Jerrie is in Boston tonight...that has given me some time to do blogging!

Nothing new in the Masonic world, not much new in the CAP world. Not much new in the radio world either I guess. Too cold for news!
